We’re seeking an experienced Refrigeration Engineer to join our Postharvest Engineering team in Hastings, working across our East and West sites.
With approximately 30 tonnes of ammonia across both sites, this is a technically significant and safety-critical position requiring deep industrial refrigeration expertise and the ability to operate with confidence and independence.
You’ll work alongside two other Refrigeration Engineers, collaborating to ensure the reliability, safety and performance of our refrigeration and controlled atmosphere systems.
About the Role
You will:
Help run and maintain large ammonia refrigeration systems safely and efficiently
Make sure fruit temperature and storage conditions meet best practice
Support planned maintenance across postharvest sites
Ensure refrigeration and electrical compliance requirements are met
Oversee contractors to make sure work is safe and high quality
Look for ways to improve system performance and efficiency
Support projects and provide technical input
Assist with general site services (buildings, security, etc.)
This role suits someone who can work independently and confidently manage complex systems in a busy environment.
What We’re Looking For
10+ years’ experience with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
Refrigeration trade qualification (essential)
Experience in industrial/commercial refrigeration and controlled atmosphere storage
Strong knowledge of ammonia safety and compliance
Experience working with contractors and projects
Good problem-solving skills
A team-focused approach
Experience in horticulture, food processing, cold storage, or similar industries is a bonus.
