Hinton’s Orchard is based in Alexandra and spans 159 hectares, one of New Zealand’s largest stonefruit orchards. Hinton's is a fifth-generation family business renowned for producing premium cherries, apricots, nectarines, peaches, plums, and peacharines for consumers in New Zealand and across Asia.
About the opportunity
Are you ready to step into a fast-paced, hands-on role that helps bring Central Otago’s premium fruit from orchard to export?
We are looking for an Operations Supervisor to join us on a fixed term contract till the end of February to support and oversee the daily operations of our cherry and stone fruit packhouse facility for our peak season.
This is a varied role that combines hands on operational problem solving and forklift operation.
In this key role, you will:
Support the day to day operations in our cherry packhouse machinery room
Oversee inventory and manage storage of packed fruit, field bins, and packaging supplies
Lead by example on all health and safety matters and train seasonal staff appropriately
Support the Operations Manager in the mechanical and operational running of the cherry packing shed
Support the General Manager to coordinate dispatch, ensuring correct labelling, load planning, and communication with freight provider
Act as a competent forklift operator for packhouse movements including loading and unloading
About you
Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
Previous packhouse or dispatch experience is desired but not essential
Proven experience in a fast-paced operational environment
Forklift licence and experience
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to coordinate logistics
A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work with and train a diverse range of seasonal staff
