Production Manager
Lead a high-performing team growing some of New Zealand's best tomatoes.
At T&G Global, our purpose is to nourish generations. Every day we grow, pack and deliver fresh produce to customers around the world, and our Covered Crops business plays an important part in that story.
We're looking for a people-focused Production Manager to lead our Ohaupo glasshouse operation, just south of Hamilton. This is an opportunity to join an experienced leadership team, take ownership of a well-established site, and help shape the future of our Covered Crops business.
About the role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for leading the day-to-day production operation, ensuring crop work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standard. You'll lead a stable team of around 25–30 people through two experienced Team Leaders, while working closely with the Grower to execute production plans that maximise crop performance.
This role is about much more than keeping the operation running. You'll be part of a collaborative team of Production Managers across our Covered Crops business, sharing ideas, solving problems together and driving continuous improvement across our sites.
An exciting addition to this role is the introduction of a new grading and packing line, giving you the opportunity to help embed new processes and contribute to the site's ongoing development.
What you'll be doing
Leading, coaching and developing a high-performing production team.
Planning and coordinating daily and weekly work programmes with the Grower.
Ensuring crop work is completed on time to maximise plant productivity.
Creating a positive, engaged and safety-focused team culture.
Managing labour planning, recruitment, training and performance.
Driving continuous improvement initiatives across production and packing operations.
Working alongside other Production Managers to share best practice and improve business performance.
Championing health, safety and wellbeing across the site.
What we're looking for
We're open to candidates from horticulture, food production, manufacturing or other production environments. While horticulture experience is an advantage, leadership capability is what matters most.
You'll bring:
Proven experience leading medium to large operational teams.
The ability to coach, motivate and develop people.
Strong communication skills and confidence building relationships across teams.
Experience improving operational performance and solving problems.
A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to wider business initiatives.
A genuine commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement.
Experience within horticulture, fresh produce or other primary industries will be highly regarded but isn't essential.
Why join T&G Fresh?
You'll join a business that's investing in its people and operations, with the opportunity to make a genuine impact.
We offer:
An established, supportive and experienced team.
The opportunity to influence how we operate across multiple sites.
Ongoing leadership development and career growth.
A values-led culture where people and safety come first.
The chance to be part of producing fresh food enjoyed by consumers across New Zealand and around the world.
If you're an experienced operations leader looking for your next challenge, or you're ready to bring your production leadership experience into a new industry, we'd love to hear from you.
