About the opportunity
We’re looking for a proactive and people-focused Assistant Labour Manager to join our Apple Operations team in Hawke’s Bay.
In this vital role, you’ll work closely with T&G’s Orchard Managers to ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time, with the right skills —to drive performance and support a productive, engaged workforce. If you're a natural leader and a true ‘people person,’ this is a fantastic opportunity to grow your career in a dynamic horticultural environment.
Key responsibilities:
Ownership of daily labour planning, allocation, and performance monitoring across orchard sectors
Provide on-the-ground coaching and in-field training for both seasonal and permanent staff
Collaborate with the Pastoral Care team and RSE workforce on logistics such as arrivals, departures, accommodation, vehicle management, and work performance
Identify capability gaps within teams and help build skills through targeted coaching, training, and feedback
Work closely with internal teams including Payroll, Orchard Managers, HR, and the Technical Team to ensure seamless labour operations
Oversee accommodation, vehicles, safety, and maintenance for the RSE workforce
Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing more efficient workforce processes
About you
Energetic, outgoing, and confident communicator
Positive attitude with a genuine willingness to learn and grow
Comfortable having challenging but constructive conversations
Strong time management, organisational, and problem-solving skills
Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities in a busy operational environment
A people-first mindset and the ability to build strong, trusted relationships across diverse teams
If you're passionate about people, leadership, and operational excellence, this is your opportunity to make a real impact. We’d love to hear from you!
