Refrigeration Engineer
At T&G Global, we grow, pack and market fresh produce to customers around the world. Our Hawke’s Bay postharvest facilities play a critical role in maintaining fruit quality, and our refrigeration systems are central to that success.
We’re seeking an experienced Refrigeration Engineer to join our Postharvest Engineering team in Hastings, working across our East and West sites.
With approximately 30 tonnes of ammonia across both sites, this is a technically significant and safety-critical position requiring deep industrial refrigeration expertise and the ability to operate with confidence and independence.
You’ll work alongside two other Refrigeration Engineers, collaborating to ensure the reliability, safety and performance of our refrigeration and controlled atmosphere systems.
About the Role
You will:
Support the safe and efficient operation of large-scale industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
Ensure fruit temperature and controlled atmosphere performance meets best practice standards
Contribute to preventative maintenance planning and execution across postharvest facilities
Manage and monitor compliance with refrigeration and site-wide electrical legislative requirements
Oversee contractor work to ensure safety and quality standards are met
Identify and implement improvements to enhance system reliability, efficiency and sustainability
Contribute to capital projects and provide technical input into engineering budgets
Support site services including building systems and security
This role requires someone who can step in with minimal supervision and confidently manage complex refrigeration systems within a busy operational environment.
What We’re Looking For
Given the scale and complexity of our systems, we require:
Minimum 10 years’ experience working specifically with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
A recognised Refrigeration Trade Qualification (essential)
Proven experience in commercial/industrial refrigeration and controlled atmosphere environments
Strong understanding of ammonia plant safety and compliance requirements
Experience working with contractors and supporting project delivery
Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Experience within horticulture, food processing, cold storage or large industrial operations will be highly regarded.
Why Join T&G?
Senior technical role with meaningful system ownership
Work alongside experienced refrigeration professionals
Large-scale ammonia plant exposure
Strong safety culture and operational support
Lifestyle location in Hawke’s Bay
This is an opportunity for an experienced industrial refrigeration engineer who enjoys hands-on technical responsibility within a collaborative team environment.
If you’re looking for a role where your experience will be valued and relied upon, we’d love to hear from you.
Proof of eligibility to work in New Zealand is required for all applicants and any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory drug test, credit check, driver licence check, and security check.
